Jake read music at the University of Liverpool, before winning a scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he studied composition with Julian Philips and Laurence Crane, and conducting with Tim Redmond. He graduated with a merit and the Mary Ryan Award for Composition in 2018.
Jake’s music has been performed at Wigmore Hall, Milton Court Concert Hall, the Courtauld Gallery, London Contemporary Dance School, the Bloomsbury Theatre, and Pleasance 2 Theatre (Edinburgh Fringe Festival), he has received commissions from University College London, British Youth Music Theatre, Richmond Concert Society, Wildchild Productions and Oldham Theatre Workshop.
Whilst at Guildhall, Jake founded the Sundial Chamber Orchestra, which he conducted in the concert premiere of Julian Philips' Maxamorphosis, later conducting premieres of student compositions with the Guildhall New Music Society. He was the conductor in residence of the Keele University Wind Ensemble from 2015-16.
Jake has been an invited speaker at the UCL Festival of Culture, The University of Leeds music colloquium and the University of York History and Theatre series. He is a professional writer associate of Mercury Musical Developments, and a featured artist of Talent Unlimited.
